The San Francisco 49ers continue their run through wide receivers in advance of the 2015 NFL Draft. Matt Barrows is reporting the team will bring in Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith for an official visit next week. The 49ers already conducted a Combine interview with Smith, so the interest would seem to be pretty real.
A rookie Smith would bring an immediate deep threat to the 49ers, alongside the veteran Smith. Devin Smith's speed is not in doubt, but from what I am reading, his hands and route-running are two areas that need to show growth. He can blast away in the go route, but has to work on rounding out the rest of his game.
Smith marks the sixth wide receiver reported to be conducting an official visit with the 49ers. The team has brought in or will bring in Sammie Coates, Ricky Collins, Stefon Diggs, Vincent Mayle and DeVante Parker. The team has also spoken with Kevin White and Dorial Green-Beckham, and has been connected to Amari Cooper. Parker, White and Cooper are considering by most to be the clear top three wide receivers of this year's class. Smith has shown up primarily in early second round picks. It only takes one team to like him, but if the 49ers are interested, maybe they make a move early in the second round.
