A day after moving down in the first round, the San Francisco 49ers decided to stand pat in round two of the 2015 NFL Draft. The team used the 46th overall pick to select Samford safety Jaquiski Tartt. The pick comes a bit out of left field, with no reported contact between team and player. I'm guessing we'll find out from Tartt during his conference call if he had contact with the 49ers.
From the scouting reports below, it sounds like Tartt has the size and big hitting ability, but struggles in coverage and general consistency. He's a small-school guy, so we'll have to wait and see how he transitions to the competition level of the NFL. Of course, in similar fashion to Armstead, the 49ers don't really need an instant impact from Tartt. It sounds like strong safety is his best role, and he would not convert to cornerback in any fashion.

Must Reads
The 49ers have Eric Reid and Antoine Bethea in the backfield, so they can take their time to develop Tartt. Eventually, we could see Tartt at strong safety, with Jimmie Ward the permanent nickel. And we can't forget Reid's concussion history. Antoine Bethea is not going to be around forever, so having extra depth is important. And the sooner they can develop a replacement for Craig Dahl, the better.
