49ers rookies begin the trek back to Santa Clara for contract signings, rookie minicamp

The San Francisco 49ers are set to welcome their rookies to Santa Clara this weekend. They have begun flying out, and we have some tweets from the players.

The San Francisco 49ers continue their offseason workout program this week, and later in the week, they will hold their rookie minicamp. 26 NFL teams had their minicamps this past weekend, while the 49ers and five other teams hold their minicamps this coming weekend. The 49ers rookie minicamp runs from Saturday May 16 to Monday May 18.

The 49ers entire 2015 draft class is on Twitter, and several of them tweeted about returning to the Bay Area to get started at minicamp. Most flew out last night or today. My guess is that means we will start to get @49ers tweets about contract signings in the next few days. The signings will usually be leaked before then, but the 49ers will also tweet out a picture of the players signing their contracts with the quill pen. There generally are not holdouts anymore with players slotted into specific dollar amounts. The only notable aspects of negotiation are guaranteed base salary and offsets, and those are not super difficult to negotiate.

This weekend marks the first time the players can spend extended time with the team, and also marks their most notable football experience since Pro Days. It will be interesting to see who is in shape, and who slid on their conditioning work over the last month and a half.
