49ers rookie minicamp: Tryout roster includes 6 defensive backs, 4 offensive linemen

The San Francisco 49ers got their rookie minicamp going on Saturday, and while it is closed to the media, it appears a list of participants was released to the local media. Matt Maiocco and Matt Barrows each released the full list of participants. The team has ten draft picks, nine undrafted free agents, ten "first year" players and ten tryout candidates.

The "first year" players are players on the team last season that did not accrue a year of service time. That includes all the NFI players, as well as practice squad players, and those not on the 53-man roster long enough to accrue a season of service. They are not "rookies" anymore, but they are not second year players under the terms of the CBA. Mike Purcell is the most notable of this group because he did get two games on the active roster last season. He was active for the final two games of the regular season, which falls under the threshold for participation (I believe six games). Here is the full list of first year players:

The tryout candidates are not signed to a contract, and are simply at the minicamp hoping to get signed to a deal for training camp. A year ago, linebacker Chase Thomas came in as a tryout candidate and earned a roster spot at training camp. He ended up on the practice squad to start the 2014 season, but was activated for five games over the course of the season. The team also signed tight end Kevin Greene after the minicamp, but cut him at the first round of roster cuts. Here is the full list of tryout invites for this year's minicamp:
