The San Francisco 49ers kick off their 2015 organized team activities on Tuesday, and they have a full 90-man roster in place. The team made three roster moves on Monday, signing offensive lineman Justin Renfrow and defensive back Mylan Hicks, and placing Justin Smith on the reserve/retired list.
The 49ers entered the day with 89 players on the roster following undrafted free agent signings. They now sit at 90 players heading into ten days of OTAs and three days of mandatory minicamp. This is a vast majority of the group we will see in training camp, but I can almost guarantee you there will be changes.
Most notably, it seems highly likely the team adds another quarterback for training camp. My guess is it will be an undrafted rookie or second or third year player who has bounced around. They could add a veteran looking to impress another team, but I don't see them adding a bigger veteran like Michael Vick. There is no competition for the starting position, and Blaine Gabbert is all but assured of being the backup. The fourth QB is going to have to be somebody who either wants to compete for a practice squad spot, or just knows he has to try and impress other teams with some third and fourth quarter play.
Other than that, no position really sticks out. Normally the team would add a camp leg, but Bradley Pinion is an even bigger factor as that extra leg. The rest of the positions could see adjustments with injuries, but otherwise it will just depend on if anybody really struggles in OTAs and minicamp.
