Golden Nuggets: Social Media Mishap

As we all know, Colin Kaepernick is highly active on social media. He routinely puts pictures up on Instagram. He always puts up pictures with motivational captions. He has received backlash on some of the content he has posted before, but today was a really big mistake on his part.

Today, Kap posted a picture of a flood scene in Houston with his favorite hashtag of the season #7tormsComing. He has been using the hashtag all offseason to apparently tell the world he is coming. While he didn't make this hashtag for this picture specifically, he should have easily known that cars flooded to the roof probably means there is some human lives in trouble. With the Houston area in serious trouble, the picture and caption he used were not in good taste.

Social media is a right every person in this country has. But quite often, athletes forget that they reach a much greater amount of people. They need to be more careful about what they say or post because they are being followed all the time. And their actions cannot be taken back once they have done it. Kap deleted the picture and issued an apology, but the damage has been done. Hopefully, Kap takes this as a lesson to be very careful on social media.
