This has to be one of the weirdest offseasons any NFL team has ever had. Four players have retired, a winning coach dismissed and replaced by a position coach. Just when we thought that the rough patch was over, news that Anthony Davis is retiring or actually taking a year off circulates. This retirement when a player is in their prime thing is becoming a real trend around Santa Clara. There is something going on with this organization. You can not tell me otherwise.
Anthony Davis is taking time away from football to get his mind and body right. He's the 2nd young Niner player to step away from the game in the peak years of his career. Following in the steps of Chris Borland, Davis' retirement leaves the Niners looking to reshuffle their offensive line.
There has to be some correlation between these retirements and the organizational issues. I'm not blaming all these retirements on management, but the players may be thinking that they rather retire than be around this organization. I'm sure health issues play a part in their decisions, but to quit your profession is a major decision. Players knew the risk they were taking playing football. It has always been a violent sport. Head injuries are not a new development. There has to be more to this story than these players just realizing that their health is at risk.
