The NFL released an updated calendar that carries us all the way through to the 2016 NFL Draft. Next year's draft is officially scheduled for April 28-30. I've embedded the full updated calendar down below. I'll be creating a calendar page to add to the library up top later this week.
The most notable upcoming dates are September 1 and September 5. On the 1st, teams must reduce their roster to 75 players. On the 5th, they must reduce their roster to the 53-man limit. After that final cutdown, waivers runs at 9 a.m. PT on September 6. Teams can then start signing players to their practice squad at 10 a.m. that day. Teams can then use the injured reserve with return designation option at 1 p.m. PT that day.
The NFL's trading deadline is set for November 3, at 1 p.m. PT. Starting the next day, all players become subject to waivers. Prior to November 4, veterans with at least four credited seasons did not go through waivers. This was something we discussed frequently as the 49ers were releasing and signing Josh Johnson over and over.
Next year, teams have between January 4 and May 3 to exercise the fifth year option on first round picks from the 2013 NFL Draft. That is obviously of note to Eric Reid and the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers will also have until March 7 to use the franchise and transition tags. The NFL free agency negotiation period runs March 12-15, and free agency begins at 1 p.m. PT on March 15.
Here is the full calendar.
