On August 1st, training camp for the Niners begins. With it around the corner, there are a few key position battles that will be interesting to watch for. All the turnover from the offseason leaves some holes that will be fought over by new players and lesser used players.
The biggest position battle comes on the offensive side of the ball. The WR position has been an area up for grabs for a few seasons. Outside of Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, there are 10 other players fighting for position. Bruce Ellington and DeAndre Smelter are the 2 most recent draft picks. Quinton Patton and Chuck Jacobs were with the team last year. And the team added 5 undrafted players. All these players will have opportunities to show that they can line up with Boldin and Smith.
The biggest position battle on defensive side comes in the secondary. The CB positions are up for grabs. There are 10 players battling it out. With last year's starting corners both gone, this group has no guaranteed starter at the moment. Each of the players has had time on the 1st team defense. It may be the most highly contested position on the team. There is no idea who will be the starters starting Week 1.
