The NFLPA released an interesting list Thursday morning, featuring the top 50 NFL players in official sales for quarter 1 of the 2015-16 fiscal year. We've seen numbers for jersey sales, but this list combined all officially licensed products sold from March 1, 2015 to May 31, 2015.
The San Francisco 49ers had five players appear on the list, with Colin Kaepernick leading the way at No. 2. NaVorro Bowman ranked No. 20, Patrick Willis was No. 39, Eric Reid was No. 47, and Carlos Hyde was No. 49. Willis retired on March 10, so I am not entirely shocked there was a quick frenzy to purchase Willis merchandise.
Tom Brady was number one in overall sales. I'm guessing there are plenty of people yelling, "We luv ya, Tawwwwmy" wearing all sorts of new gear to support their suspended quarterback. The rest of the top five after Brady and Kap was Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning. That was followed by Richard Sherman and J.J. Watt at six and seven, as the first non-quarterbacks on the list.
Kap ranked first in Nike jersey sales, and was fifth among kids. Russell Wilson led the way there, followed by Rodgers, Watt, Manning and then Kap. This included licensees Bleacher Creatures, Outerstuff and Oyo Sports. While Kap trailed a few players in sales to kids, he ranked No. 1 in apparel sales among women. There is not a list of what kind of merchandise that included.
