Vernon Davis played hurt much of 49ers 2014 season, according to report

This is not surprising news, but rather further confirmation of chatter that had been out there. The big question is whether Vernon Davis bounces back in 2015, or if the injuries are a sign of things to come.

This is not exactly shocking news, but it is a little something to add to the story. Vernon Davis dealt with a couple injuries last season, but denied that it lasted most of the season or was the reason for his poor performance. However, we have seen different reports indicating otherwise. Now, Mark Purdy has added a little more. Purdy spoke with Geep Chryst in a 45-minute interview recently. Yesterday, we discussed Chryst's comments about Colin Kaepernick.

Following that article, Purdy published a second portion of the interview with some outtakes. Here is on excerpt from the article:

I get the impression that in assembling the 49ers' offense for this season, Chryst is not only eager to see what new acquisitions Torrey Smith and Reggie Bush can bring to the table, but has big plans for the returns of a healthy Vernon Davis (who was playing hurt most of last season but didn't talk about it) and Kendall Hunter (who missed all of 2014 with a knee injury).

"I think that Vernon is going to have a big year," Chryst said.

That is not a quotation from Chryst, so I followed up with Purdy to see if Chryst had said this, or he had this from other sources. Purdy responded with this:

Again, this is not breaking news, but it is good to hear it from someone else. The question now is what it means for the 2015 season. Davis could recover and bounce back to pre-2014 form, or at least some portion of it. On the other hand, it could be the start of Davis breaking down as he gets older. We won't know until the team hits the field. Davis is a guy who has stayed in great shape, but getting hurt as you get older can be harder and harder to avoid. If Davis can rebound that would be huge for the 49ers offense, but we really can't say anything for certain.
