Bobby Massie suspended 3 games, Cardinals offer Chris Johnson contract

The Arizona Cardinals had a busy Tuesday. We break down the latest news on the 49ers division rival.

Earlier this week, we took a look at news impacting some of the San Francisco 49ers 2015 opponents. We briefly discussed the Arizona Cardinals issue with Michael Floyd's dislocated fingers. The Cardinals decided to make Tuesday a slightly busy day. The two most notable pieces of news are that right tackle Bobbie Massie is facing a three-game suspension, and the team offered a contract to running back Chris Johnson.

Bobby Massie suspension

Apparently, this is actually related to a Super Bowl arrest. Massie was arrested for being intoxicated behind the wheel of his car. I use that specific language because he apparently was asleep in his car when the police approached the vehicle. This report says he was at the team's practice facility on January 31 when the incident took place.

The Cardinals drafted D.J. Humphries in the first round of this year's draft, and all indications are that he will move into the starting lineup at right tackle. Arizona has overhauled its offensive line, adding Humphries and Mike Iupati this year, and Jared Veldheer last year. The 49ers travel to face the Cardinals in Week 3, and it is safe to say Humphries will probably be in the lineup on the right side.

Chris Johnson contract offer

The Cardinals are reportedly not too pleased with the running back situation, and are ready to address it. Andre Ellington was set to start, but he along with David Johnson and Marion Grice are all dealing with hamstring injuries. The team offered Johnson a one-year contract on Tuesday. There is no word yet on Johnson's view of the offer, but Revenge of the Birds sees Johnson competing with Ellington for the starting role.
