I gotta say, when I read that former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams tore his ACL on Saturday, my heart sank. There's a lot of talent in him as a receiver, and I was hoping he could find a way to catch on in Denver's pass-heavy offense even in a limited role. His time with the 49ers was marred by injury and one really ugly NFC Championship game and I always felt like Williams deserved better than that as a player and a person. Reading about his reaction immediately after sustaining the injury is also heartbreaking.
Hopefully, whatever he wants to happen going forward does happen. Moving on, the 49ers also kicked off training camp proper on Saturday and of course, the field was terrible. We talked about the field already (spoilers: and will again in the morning) but I was glad to see good things regarding NaVorro Bowman and, to a lesser extent, Nick Moody. It would be nice if Moody developed into one of those random super linebackers like Chris Borland did, you know?
