The Green Bay Packers are facing the Pittsburgh Steelers in an early Sunday preseason game, and they've just gotten some potentially awful news. Jordy Nelson suffered a knee injury during the game, and Ian Rapoport is reporting the initial diagnosis is a torn ACL. Nelson is getting an MRI to confirm the news.
Preseason injuries are the absolute worst, no matter who suffers them. The San Francisco 49ers host the Green Bay Packers in Week 4, and if this injury news is confirmed, the Packers will be without their top receiver for the game. His absence means more of the passing game will fall on Randall Cobb's shoulders. More importantly, Aaron Rodgers will likely be looking to Davante Adams even more as well. The team also drafted Ty Montgomery late in the third round of this year's draft, so they at least have some potential depth to overcome the loss.
Ideally the news comes back positive, and this is not as bad, but all indications are that Nelson will be done for the year. Best of luck in his recovery. And hopefully no other teams have to deal with another one of these nasty preseason injuries.
