The game against the Dallas Cowboys showed a lot of positives. The running backs showed very well and the offensive line blocked well to allow the running backs room to run. The defensive and special team units stole the show. Mike Purcell had a pick-6, Quinton Patton had a punt block for a TD, and Jarryd Hayne was a threat on his 3 punt returns. The fans at Levi's Stadium were given a great showing by the Niners.

With all the positives, there are still some areas with question marks. The passing game had a very limited showing. What the passing offense will look like is still an area of concern. Kap had a good throw to Torrey Smith in the end zone that would have been a TD if not for the great play by the CB. Other than that, Kaepernick did not pass the much. Much of this season will come down to Kap's ability to bounce back from his down season last year. A lot of that is going to be his ability to pass the ball. In total, the Niners had a total of 50 yards passing. With only that many yards throwing, we weren't able to assess the WRs and TEs very well.

Some players may be in trouble with roster spots. Kendall Hunter will need to hit the field soon or he could be losing his spot to Jarryd Hayne unless the team plans on carrying 5 backs. Jarryd is making it very difficult for Trent Baalke and Jim Tomsula to cut him. He has great return abilities and seems to learning the running back position very well. Kendall needs some game action to show what he can do. Quinton Patton made a disastrous cameo as a WR. He took a 2 yard gain and reversed field to lose 12 yards. He somewhat made up for it with the punt block for the TD, but the coaching staff wanted to see more on the offensive side of the ball considering Jerome Simpson will be suspended for the 1st 6 games of the season. The #3 WR spot is open for the taking and Quinton didn't seize the opportunity.
