49ers training camp practice recap, 8/27/15: Team gets to work without Ahmad Brooks

The 49ers moved on from Ahmad Brooks with a practice session against the Broncos on Thursday. We've got a recap of the team's final open practice.

Obviously the big news to come out of today was the fact that outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks was excused from the team "indefinitely." I don't really know what that means at this point, so instead I'm going to focus on the practice the team held today. Yes, that's right, the 49ers did, in fact, hit the practice field on Thursday and there's a few things worth noting.

The most interesting thing, to me, was that running back/kick returner/Australian sensation Jarryd Hayne was getting some pointers from the opposition, the Denver Broncos. Thursday's session was a joint practice, and Hayne said he got some tips on pad level from a Broncos safety who, you know, was tackling him. Cam Inman highlighted this here.

Left tackle Joe Staley said that the team was simply trying to move on past all the Brooks stuff, and NaVorro Bowman said that the 49ers have to "find some guys" to fill the void at outside linebacker given Aldon Smith's departure and Brooks' issues, as noted by Matt Maiocco here.

As for stuff that actually happened, Colin Kaepernick hit undrafted receiver DeAndrew White for a 50-yard touchdown over Omar Bolden. On the defensive side of the ball, Michael Wilhoite returned to work with the first team defense after missing time with an injury, and managed to pick off a Peyton Manning pass.

Tramaine Brock was held out of progress with what the 49ers called a "muscle pull." It's some kind of hamstring injury. Linebacker Nick Moody went down with an injury during special teams work, and it appears it's some kind of left knee injury. As noted by Maiocco, head coach Jim Tomsula thinks things are relatively minor.

Other notes, mostly from Maiocco, include the fact that there were no fights in the two sessions, Kendall Hunter got a lot of action in the running game (and had a fumbled exchange with Kaepernick), White also caught a touchdown pass from Blaine Gabbert, Keith Reaser and Shayne Skov seemed to have big days.

I'm currently at work and Fooch is being a lazy jerk and having dinner with his friends, so I'll go ahead and embed the Twitter media lists if you want to dig a little deeper than I've done with this very quick post. Be sure to berate him for his sustenance requirement and also beg him not to go to Vegas again like he's planning to do this weekend. He just won't listen to reason. Also, here's the main recaps from the beat writers thus far:
