The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their fifth day of practice, returning to Levi's Stadium after two days at the practice facility. It's getting a bit late out here, so I'm going to hit on some of the big notes, and then drop in the 49ers media Twitter list for when recaps start to roll out.
The past two days away from the stadium were meant to let the field recover a bit, but unfortunately that did not do enough. The team returned to the field and had to deal with more issues:
#49ers rookie RB Mike Davis slipped making cut around chewed-up area of grass near south end zone. Got up slowly, but appears to be fine.

Davis came away fine, but dealing with this chewed up sod is getting ridiculously problematic. The team will replace the sod after next week's Taylor Swift concert, but if they are going to practice on this field again, they need to figure something out. Matt Maiocco had this to say:
The 49ers are going half-speed at practice at Levi's Stadium. This is a new one. Haven't seen this before.

It's only reasonable to assume at this point they don't want to take any chances and put players at risk of injury due to turf conditions.

I asked if low-speed drills are due to field, 49ers official said he isn't sure. But he added not all practice structures are the same.

Sod aside, it sounds like there was some good news from the practice. The offensive line apparently acquitted itself much better than recent reports. It is only one practice session, but ideally it provides them with a building block moving forward. This is a unit that needs time to gel and develop chemistry, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction.
It's night and day for the 49ers offensive line after yesterday's bad practice. They are more than holding their own tonight.

Antoine Bethea and Arik Armstead both left practice after getting banged up. Garrett Celek stepped on Bethea's foot, but it sounds like Bethea was fine later in the session. Armstead took a knee to the thigh earlier and had a bit of "dead leg", so that is hopefully just a one-day thing. NaVorro Bowman was back on the field on Wednesday after getting a veteran's day off on Tuesday. Jimmie Ward was not listed on the injury report, but did not participate in team drills.
Colin Kaepernick threw an interception on the day, in a slant pass to Torrey Smith. Nick Moody had the pick, his second of the past five days. I suppose we can at least be happy it wasn't a fade?
I'll be back with more of a recap of the recaps in the morning. In the meantime, here is the 49ers media Twitter feed.
