While one linebacker goes through all sorts of craziness, the San Francisco 49ers have added another linebacker. Radio personality and former scout John Middlekauff is reporting the 49ers have signed linebacker Steve Beauharnais. The team has not announced the move, but likely will do so once Ben Gottschalk clears waivers and opens up a roster spot.
The move comes as the team is dealing with injuries at inside linebacker that leave them very short-handed. Michael Wilhoite and Nick Bellore are on the NFI list, while Philip Wheeler suffered a muscle strain and missed Wednesday's practice. This move would seem to indicate Wheeler will not be back on the practice field Friday afternoon.
At this point, Beauharnais would seem to be a camp body to provide someone who can take reps until Wheeler and Wilhoite get healthier. This is Beauharnais's third season in the NFL. I found a brief scouting report when the 49ers first worked him out earlier this week.
