Terrell Suggs tears Achilles vs. Broncos, will not play vs. 49ers

The Baltimore Ravens lost a key pass rush threat on Sunday to an Achilles injury. We break down the injury, which means he will not play vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

The Baltimore Ravens suffered a huge blow on Sunday in their 19-13 loss to the Denver Broncos. Pass rusher Terrell Suggs tore his Achilles and is out for the season. The team announced it shortly after the game ended. This is the second time he has torn his Achilles (although I'm not sure if it's the same leg).

This is a huge loss for the Ravens, and also means he will be out when the Ravens travel to the Bay Area to face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. There will be plenty of other issues for the 49ers to address in that game, but this is a big one. has had 22 sacks over the past two seasons, with 12 last season, and 10 the season before. Aside from 2012, when he suffered his last Achilles injury, he had double digit sacks each of the last four seasons.

In Sunday's game, Courtney Upshaw and Elvis Dumervil split the outside linebacker duties after Suggs departed. Za'Darius Smith was inactive, but I'd imagine will be activated starting next week.
