In news that is not overly surprising, San Francisco 49ers running back Reggie Bush suffered a leg injury in the first quarter of Monday Night Football. He got up with a limp, and was not putting weight on his left leg. He was subsequently taken to the locker room, and is questionable to return.
His absence means Jarryd Hayne is now the backup running back. The team kept Bush, Hayne and Carlos Hyde active, and deactivated Mike Davis. Hayne would seem to be the backup running back, but the team also could use Bruce Ellington out of the backfield. He is a wide receiver, but the 49ers used him in a variety of roles in 2014. He would not be an every down back, but he can provide another option.
For now though, Hayne is the closest they have to a normal running back, so we'll see if he gets some opportunities given his inexperience. My guess is Carlos Hyde becomes even more of a workhorse.
