Golden Nuggets: Hyde Runs Wild

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers opened up their 2015 campaign last night on the 2nd Monday night game of the evening at Levi's Stadium. Jim Tomsula made his debut as head coach on primetime TV. NaVorro Bowman and Adrian Peterson made their long awaited return after missing the whole 2014 season.

Running back #28 stole the show, but it wasn't the former rushing leader and NFL MVP, Adrian Peterson. It was El Guapo, Carlos Hyde, who torched the Minnesota Vikings for 168 yards on 26 carries with 2 touchdowns. On one run, he hit an absolute video game spin move to elude a defender and switch field to open up a nice lane into the end zone. Colin Kaepernick had an effective game in the air and the ground. He threw for 165 yards and ran for 41 yards. He did enough to continue drives and did not turn the ball over, which allowed the team to win field position.

The defense was absolutely stellar. They were flying around the field, feeding off the energy from the crowd. Adrian Peterson, making his return from a year out of the game, was bottled up by the 49ers defense again. The team held him to 31 yards on 10 carries. The blitzes were able to get to Teddy Bridgewater as he was sacked 5 times and he was picked off once by Tramaine Brock. Everyone on the defensive side contributed to hold Minnesota to 3 points.

The team now travels across the country to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The team will want to feed off the good work they did last night and carry it over to Pittsburgh.

As an aside, I'd like to note that going forward the links for the Nuggets will no longer open in a new tab. Turns out, most people don't like that so if you're used to that, and you want to open in a new tab or window, right click on the link or use whatever shortcut works for your operating system. That's been your boring site update for the day. (Note, there is a strong chance that muscle memory will mean I forget this on some links -- the big thing here is that we're phasing that out going forward). Onto your links!
