Before the San Francisco 49ers had even stepped on the field for their first regular season game, an early line was released for their Week 2 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Las Vegas SuperBook had the 49ers set as 6.5-point underdogs heading on the road to Pittsburgh. Since defeating the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football, the 49ers-Steelers line has come down a point. It now sits at Steelers -5.5, according to the various sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
I am not surprised the Steelers are still a fairly sizable favorite, but it will be interesting to see what kind of money comes in on this game over the next few days. On the one hand, the 49ers are coming off a solid win over the Minnesota Vikings. On the other hand, they have to travel cross-country after a Monday night game to face a Steelers team that played last Thursday. That does not bode well for the 49ers.
During the Jim Harbaugh era, the 49ers were underdogs of at least five points in six games, all on the road. The team was 4-2 both straight up and against the spread, according to the OddsShark database. Last season, they were 1-2 in those games. Here are the gambling stats from those last six games.
