Week 2 NFL picks: AFC West divisional showdown as our TNF appetizer

New, comments

We're back with Week 2 NFL picks for our Yahoo! pick 'em contest. I've also included my pick against the spread for Thursday Night Football.

Welcome back for another round of picks! Week 2 of Thursday Night Football is upon us, with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Denver Broncos. Both teams won their opener, but I would say the Chiefs looked a bit better in victory. The Broncos faced the tougher opponent, while the Chiefs were on the road for their win. The big thing was that Peyton Manning did not look particularly great in the Broncos win. Maybe he bounces back fine, but it was not impressive.

I'll be posting my picks against the spread on Saturday, but for today, I have posted my straight up picks down below. If you have not joined our pick 'em group over at Yahoo!, you're still welcome. Head over and use the following information:

I have the 49ers with the win over the Steelers. Of course, I'll be picking the 49ers every week against the Steelers. The 49ers were a 6.5-point underdog late Sunday, slipped down to 5.5-points on Tuesday, and the line is back at six points on Thursday. I think they can win outright because the Steelers defense is a big question mark after Week 1. The 49ers will need to attack them a bit more through the air, but if they can do that with some success, this is a winnable game.

For Thursday Night Football, I have the Chiefs winning and covering the three-point spread. Denver have banged up players in running back C.J. Anderson, defensive end Malik Jackson and safety Darian Stewart. All three are expected to play, but for now, Denver just looks a little off heading into this divisional showdown. It could be close, but I think the Chiefs win by four or five.
