The San Francisco 49ers are about set to close out their preseason schedule for 2015. The team hosts the San Diego Chargers on Thursday, two days before final roster cuts are due. The 49ers cut down to 75 players on Monday, and will finalize their roster with Thursday's performances. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. PT, and will air on CBS-5 in the Bay Area. It will also broadcast nationally on NFL Network. An live online stream is available via NFL GamePass, including a 7-day free trial. Must Reads
The 49ers and Chargers have an extensive preseason history. They do not always play the final preseason game of the year, but it is a frequent part of the schedule. This game marks the 44th time these two teams have squared off when it does not matter. And we are stuck with a crazy late start to the game. Oh how I enjoy a 10 p.m. ET start! But hey, at least fans won't bake in the sun.
We are not expected to see very much of the 49ers starters on Thursday. I imagine some will get some playing time, but for the most part, this game is about the backups. We'll get a whole lot of Blaine Gabbert and Dylan Thompson. We'll see Kendall Hunter, Mike Davis and Jarryd Hayne. Guys like Mike Purcell, Tony Jerod-Eddie, Shayne Skov and an assortment of the cornerbacks will see extensive time. It is truly for the diehards!
