The attorney for San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks has entered a not guilty plea on his client's behalf, according to Damian Trujillo. Brooks was not in attendance for what is a formality as the case moves forward.
Brooks was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery back in late August. The team immediately sent him back to California while they were in Colorado practicing with the Denver Broncos. He re-joined the team, and has been active all three games to start the season. There is no indication anything will change anytime soon as the NFL continues to review his case. The league said there was nothing that would require he be placed on the Commissioner's Exempt list, so at this point any potential punishment likely would not come until after the legal case is resolved.
I am not seeing any update on his next court date. The defense and prosecution could work on a plea bargain, or Brooks could just be looking to fight this out in court. A plea could happen at any time, so we'll keep an eye out for more details.
