49ers-Chargers: Darnell Dockett, Torrey Smith out, NaVorro Bowman likely out

Fooch's update: I've heard from a source that Quinton Dial will also sit out the game.

The San Francisco 49ers announced four players who are out for Thursday night's preseason finale against the San Diego Chargers. Tramaine Brock, Darnell Dockett, Vance McDonald and Torrey Smith are all dealing with various injuries and will sit. Brock has his leg issue, Dockett has a rib issue, McDonald rolled his ankle last week, and Smith has a knee issue. All are expected to be fine for the Week 1 opener, but it is not surprising they will sit for the preseason finale.

This is far from a complete list of players who will not play on Thursday. The team is likely to bench several starters, with Cam Inman reporting NaVorro Bowman will not play. Colin Kaepernick and others are warming up before the game, according to reports, but I would be surprised if a lot of them played. I suppose we could see a series for some of them, but it will be limited.

So get ready for the excitement of backup football late into the evening!
