9 days until 49ers kickoff: Who wore it best? Who wears it now?

The San Francisco 49ers kick off the 2015 NFL regular season on Monday Night Football, on September 14. That game. means San Francisco is now a mere 9 days away from kicking off its 2015 regular season. In the spirit of that approaching date, I thought I would steal this idea from our Oakland Raiders site.

Who wore it best: K Phil Dawson (2013-present)

Jersey No. 9 is another one without a whole lot of history. It does not appear that anybody wore it prior to 1986. My favorite aspect of it might be that three different players donned it in 2011. Fabrizio Scaccia, Josh McCown and Dontavia Bogan all wore it at one time or another, and I don't think a single one of them spent time on the team's 53-man roster that season. Well done!

Phil Dawson gets the honor this time around. Punter Barry Helton and quarterback Jeff Jemp both get some consideration, but we'll go with Dawson. The 49ers have Dawson signed through this season, after which he will turn 41. I don't know that he will definitely be gone after this season, but it will be worth tracking him closely over the next four or five months. Corey Acosta looked solid in the preseason, so maybe the 49ers try and bring him back to the practice squad this year, and onto the roster next year.
