49ers could be wearing black alternate uniforms for season opener vs. Vikings

The San Francisco 49ers have their new black alternate uniforms, and will wear them for no more than two games this season. It sounds like one of those games could be Week 1.

49ers PR

The San Francisco 49ers introduced new black alternate uniforms this offseason, and under league rules, are allowed to wear them for two games this season. The team has not announced the games in which they will wear the alternate uniforms, but we might have one already. It sounds like the 49ers might wear their alternates for the Monday Night Football opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

Someone tweeted this to me Saturday morning.

It is a screenshot of this Instagram post by Marcus Rivero. He confirmed in the comments that he is talking about the season opener. Sneaker fans might know Rivero as a guy who puts together a lot of customized work. In fact, he designed customized cleats for the entire University of Miami football team for their September 19 game against Nebraska. He also does work with Antoine Bethea, as mentioned in that Instagram post.

If the 49ers are in fact going with the black alternates next Monday, we'll probably find out in the next day or two. Monday is Labor Day, so the 49ers might wait until Tuesday to announce it. I know some folks are not fans of the black alternates, but I like them. I love the 49ers traditional red obviously, but I don't mind them mixing in a little black. There have been critiques that black uniforms is a decade-old style, but after seeing Colin Kaepernick with the black practice jersey in previous years, I can get behind it.
