49ers announce 9 players sign to practice squad

The San Francisco 49ers announced nine of their ten practice squad spots. They do not need to fill the tenth spot, but likely will do so outside the training camp roster. Here is the full list of nine players.

The San Francisco 49ers announced their first nine practice squad signings on Sunday. Leaks had trickled in, but the team made nine of them official. The 49ers have one more open spot on the practice squad. The first nine players all were part of the 49ers roster during training camp. The decision to hold off on the tenth spot could mean the team is speaking with players that were cut by other teams.

QB Dylan Thompson
RB Kendall Gaskins
WR DiAndre Campbell
OG Andrew Tiller
DT Kaleb Ramsey
NT Garrison Smith
OLB Marcus Rush
CB Marcus Cromartie
S Jermaine Whitehead

Among ex-49ers, Lawrence Okoye signed with the Arizona Cardinals practice squad. We have not heard of any other moves. Matt Barrows reported Justin Renfrow and Dillon Farrell are considering other options. Matt Maiocco reported Xavier Grimble is looking elsewhere as well. You can read about practice squad rules and salary here. I made predictions earlier today and got seven of the nine players. I thought Andrew Tiller would get claimed off waivers, and did not include Garrison Smith.

My guess is the 49ers end up signing a player that was cut elsewhere given that they would need to bring him in for a visit and physical. If the 49ers add a tenth player, I could see it happening Monday or Tuesday.
