The San Francisco 49ers kick off the 2015 NFL regular season on Monday Night Football, on September 14. That game. means San Francisco is now a mere 7 days away from kicking off its 2015 regular season. In the spirit of that approaching date, I thought I would steal this idea from our Oakland Raiders site.
Who wore it best: QB Colin Kaepernick (2011-present)
I had to have a little fun with the picture. Colin Kaepernick is the easy winner for No. 7, with kicker Wade Richey a distant second. But Ken Dorsey did briefly wear No. 7 for two seasons with the 49ers. The team drafted him in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft, and he managed to see action in ten games in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, the 49ers rolled out Tim Rattay for nine games, and Dorsey for seven, with Cody Pickett making an appearance during one game. In 2005, Alex Smith started seven games, Tim Rattay started four, Ken Dorsey started three, and Cody Pickett started two. Good times!
But the obvious choice is Kap. He is entering his fifth season with the 49ers, his fourth in some kind of starting capacity, and his third "full" season as the starter heading into the year. It's been a wild ride throughout, and it does not promise to get any smoother in 2015. That's not to say Kap won't take a step forward, but there are enough unanswered questions that I could see virtually anything happening, and it would not surprise me.
I suppose it is fitting that we enter the final week countdown to Monday Night Football with the guy who has a whole lot of pressure on his shoulders to help this team rebound from a tumultuous offseason.
