The San Francisco 49ers face the Minnesota Vikings in the late Monday Night Football game to kick off the season. This means we get to listen to Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer call the game. Whatever your thoughts on Dilfer, he will have plenty to say about the 49ers.
Dilfer spent some time earlier this week breaking down film of both the 49ers and Vikings, and had a lot of thoughts on Twitter. Yesterday, we took a look at his thoughts on Colin Kaepernick. Today I wanted to post his tweets about the 49ers defense. Dilfer is the analyst for Monday's game, and I imagine he will reference a few of these things throughout the evening. It is a nice mix of both positive and negative thoughts.
Niners #FilmStudy Defense 1- LOVE front 7's speed, power & ability to get off block, but developing proven difference makers will take time— Trent Dilfer (@TDESPN) September 8, 2015
Niners #FilmStudy D2- Mangini is VERY GOOD at creating "free runners" at QB by breaking down protections. Also, disrupting releases of TE's— Trent Dilfer (@TDESPN) September 8, 2015
Niners #FilmStudy D3-Challenge for D will be adjusting to multiple O sets, shifts and motions. Changes zone/man blitz rules at last second— Trent Dilfer (@TDESPN) September 8, 2015
Niners #FilmStudy D4- Look for teams to take downfield shots when Niners are forced into 1 high/man defense on 3rd 2-5. Need to mix & match— Trent Dilfer (@TDESPN) September 8, 2015
Niners #FilmStudy D5- Niners have to stop A Gap runs & hard "action pass" on early downs. OLB's will need to squeeze without losing contain— Trent Dilfer (@TDESPN) September 8, 2015
