49ers ILB coach Clancy Pendergast 'will probably accept the USC defensive coordinator's position'

We could start to see some shake up in the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff sooner rather than later.

The San Francisco 49ers have one game remaining, at which point we will find out if any coaches will be replaced. We might already have one name, as inside linebackers coach Clancy Pendergast "will probably accept the USC defensive coordinator's position", according to the Los Angeles Times.

Pendergast was offered the job last year, but had turned it down because he wanted to stay in the NFL. He had been USC defensive coordinator for one season in 2013, before sitting out the 2014 season. The report says Pendergast has changed his mind because he is "concerned the 49ers might make coaching staff changes after their season ends."

The 49ers coaching staff is likely to remain in limbo for at least a couple more days. It is possible there have already been discussions about what will happen after the final game, but nobody has given that up. Jim Tomsula has been asked about his job security, but has not had a lot to add. He was asked on Wednesday if Jed York has told him he will be back next season. Tomsula said they see each other and their conversations are week-to-week, and not specific to 2016 at this point.

We don't know specifically when Jed York will meet with the 49ers media, but that is likely when we'll start to get some formal answers on this stuff. In the meantime, we wait for leaks.
