Niners Nation DOOOOOM Index: Has Chip Kelly bolstered 49ers fans' confidence?

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The only coach you could possibly bring in to potentially resurrect the San Francisco 49ers career of Colin Kaepernick was brought in. The 49ers seemed to have conducted a real and proper search for a head coach, even if things didn't go exactly their way. There's a relatively high draft pick for Trent Baalke and well, the 49ers did end the regular season on a win.

Stop it. Don't do this to yourself, wayward 49ers fan. It's not worth it, and you should know better.

The 49ers are irreparably damaged and we, as a fanbase, are spiraling ever downward to inevitable doom's embrace. Jed York has won the battle and there's nothing we can do to swing the tide of war in the other direction. We've all lost together and I charge every single one of you that it is now our duty to accept our crushing defeat huddled up together, with no hope.

We're doomed, you see. The 49ers are doomed, Chip Kelly is doomed, Kaepernick is doomed and every single one of you is doomed along with them. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, there is no 2016 in which the 49ers are actually good. There is nothing left.

* * *

Now that we got that out of the way, let's talk a little bit about what has transpired since the last time we did one of these. Jim Tomsula has been fired, and I gotta say, the more I hear about his tenure as head coach the more I think we knew absolutely nothing about Tomsula before he got the job.

The 49ers potentially thought they had multiple coaching candidates locked down, and when those things didn't pan out, they brought in Chip Kelly, a man they liked from the beginning. Kelly is an interesting hire, one who might be able to get something done with Colin Kaepernick, and one who certainly has the coaching chops if he keeps his priorities straight.

I don't know what to expect going forward.

But what I do know is that it would be real hard to go any lower at this point. The 49ers have hit rock bottom, as far as I'm concerned, and there could be a much, much worse hire than someone like Kelly. I hope he doesn't clash with the front office, which might be a tall order.

I also know that the second to last time I did a DOOM INDEX post, the 49ers had beaten the Minnesota Vikings and people here were optimistic. What fools. What silly, silly fools you all were. But then another one took place around the Ravens game and people were ... less than optimistic.

DOOM

As always, you can see the doom results at this Imgur album. I've decided to run another poll because, well, so much has changed. I didn't run a bunch during the regular season because honestly, did I really need to? People didn't want to vote, things were terrible aaaaand we all knew we were doomed.

But I'm interested to see where this rates at this stage. I'm gonna guess people are optimistic (fools), but I suppose we'll see.
