The San Francisco 49ers 2015 season is a wrap, and the team has a new head coach in place. The decision to swap out Jim Tomsula and swap in Chip Kelly means we will see some significant differences in the 49ers offense in 2016. I don't know exactly what those differences will entail, but it will be something.
Now that we at least know who the head coach is, I thought was a good time to post the full list of 49ers free agents heading into the 2016 offseason. We looked at the list last June, and plenty has changed from that group. 11 of the players from that group are no longer on the roster, and Andrew Tiller signed a 2-year contract when he was promoted off the practice squad.
Along with the 11 removed, we have added four players to the list. The most notable is running back Shaun Draughn. He put together a very solid effort in place of Carlos Hyde and Reggie Bush, but suffered his own season-ending injury. He should be fine for the offseason workout program, but will Trent Baalke and Chip Kelly want him back? Baalke is the GM and reportedly has complete control over the roster, with Kelly expected to have say on the quarterback position. But how much advice will Baalke take from Kelly? It's a fascinating dynamic given the personnel power reports that have dogged Kelly.
