Chip Kelly, 49ers denied permission to interview several Eagles coaches

The San Francisco 49ers will not be adding a few Philadelphia Eagles coaches to Chip Kelly's coaching staff. We take a look at the names, and what it means.

Chip Kelly is speaking with various assistant coaches to fill out his coaching staff, but the San Francisco 49ers head coach will not be able to interview with some of his former assistants on the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia media personality Howard Eskin is reporting the Eagles denied the 49ers permission to interview OL coach Jeff Stoutland, DB coach Cory Undlin, and ST coach Dave Fipp.

The 49ers 2015 coaches in those positions were Chris Foerster, Tim Lewis, and Thomas McGaughey, respectively. Foerster joined Adam Gase and the Miami Dolphins in the same position. Lewis has interviewed with the Cincinnati Bengals for the same role, but there is no word on his status. There is no word on McGaughey's status, or any interviews.

Free safety Eric Reid endorsed Lewis as a potential defensive coordinator. Eric Mangini interviewed with Kelly on Friday, and FOX Sports NFL reporter Alex Marvez is reporting there is a strong possibility he returns to the 49ers. Chip Kelly is expected to meet with the media later this week, and my guess is most or all of his coaching staff will be in place by the time he speaks with the media.
