Could Carson Wentz end up as the first quarterback off the board in 2016 NFL Draft?

Rumor season is underway for the 2016 NFL Draft. The latest surrounds quarterback Carson Wentz, with some thinking he might shake up the top of the draft board.

The 2016 NFL Draft is a little over three months away, and that means there is plenty of time for rumors and speculation. Every team will be looking to get somebody else ahead of them to take a player and help bump other players down. There's going to be plenty of gamesmanship, particularly for potential first round picks.

The latest such rumor revolves around North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.

Risdon creates all sorts of draft content, and seems to be respected among "draft twitter" folks. Anything needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but Wentz is a guy that some people are particularly high on. Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch have gotten most of the ink as potential first round quarterbacks, but Wentz is certainly a possibility.

The question then becomes who would want him. The Cleveland Browns are the easy call, but that might not be the case, if some random team has their say

The top of the draft board includes the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers. The Titans have made it clear the first pick is available to the highest bidder. There is some great talent at the top of the draft board, but there is not that No. 1 pick that is so clearly the right choice. A player like Joey Bosa certainly could end up going first, but it makes sense for the Titans to try and accumulate a bunch of picks in a deal. Of course, with questions surrounding some of the top talent, I imagine it won't be easy to get a deal done.

We will be looking at all the notable quarterbacks available in the 2016 NFL Draft, but I still do not see the team going quarterback in the first round. If that proves to be the case, Wentz going in the top six picks would certainly benefit the 49ers position in looking at other players, or potentially a trade down.
