Better Rivals podcast: What should the 49ers look for in a head coaching candidate? (rebroadcast)

New, comments

David and Oscar are pulling from the archives this week, re-posting an episode from the end of the 2014 season in which they discuss what to look for in a head coaching candidate.

With some scheduling conflicts preventing us from recording a new episode and the possibility the 49ers will be looking for a new head coach next week, the Better Rivals podcast is reaching into the archives. This week's episode is an abbreviated version of the show we ran after Jim Harbaugh was fired at this time a year ago, in which we discuss the traits we would look for in a head coaching candidate. Should the 49ers opt to move on from Jim Tomsula, much of the information discussed in this episode will again become relevant, even if the names might be a little different this time around.

If you’re looking for some companion reading, I did some subsequent research on the profile of a successful head coach following the recording of this episode that dives deeper into the numbers from coaching tenures over the past 20 years.
