Golden Nuggets: Chip To Finally Speak

Tuesday was a dark day for a few assistant coaches on the 49ers staff. It was the day that 10 of the coaches were relieved of their duty on the team. The most obvious of those was offensive coordinator Geep Chryst. He led an offense that ranked 31st in the league in yards and 32nd in points scored. With Chip Kelly as the head coach, the offensive strategy will change and he will want to hire his own offensive coordinator.

Reports are saying that Curtis Modkins, Detroit Lions assistant, is a top candidate for the 49ers offensive coordinator opening. He has a background coaching the running backs and coordinating the run game with the Lions and Bills. It is expected that Chip will still handle the play-calling for the offense, which he has done in the past.

Chip Kelly will finally be introduced to the 49ers media at his 1st press conference as the head coach on Wednesday. He was hired last week, but there was no date scheduled for his introductory press conference. He will be introduced by Jed York and Trent Baalke. One of the biggest questions he will likely face is his plan with Colin Kaepernick. It is reported that the 2 men met Monday. That question will be important because Kap is rehabbing from injury and the team has until April 1st to decide on his future. If healthy, the team can cut him if Kelly is not interested in keeping him. If injured, his $11.9 million salary will be fully guaranteed.
