Anthony Lynn removes name from 49ers OC consideration

The San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator search is not quite over yet. Buffalo Bills assistant coach Anthony Lynn has removed his name from consideration. He interviewed with the team during the head coach search. Once the team hired Chip Kelly, his name popped back up as an option for offensive coordinator. There is no word as to why he removed his name from consideration.

Some discussion around Lynn's withdrawing his name made an interesting point. If word gets out about the 49ers OC soon, the team might have let Lynn put it out there that he withdrew his name to save face to some extent. It's also possible he just is not interested in the role. The 49ers have been connected with Detroit Lions running back Curtis Modkins, and Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

Chip Kelly's offensive coordinator is someone who will likely have more responsibility than a position coach, but not as much as a normal OC. Kelly has said he will call plays from the sideline on game-day. He did clarify that there would be extensive discussion about the plays among the coaching staff during the week to be situationally prepared.
