Golden Nuggets: Another Defensive Coach Hired

The 49ers have still not hired a defensive coordinator for next season. Last week, the 49ers reportedly extended a job offer to the Houston Texans linebackers' coach Mike Vrabel to become the team's defensive coordinator. Vrabel did not take the job because he did not want to relocate, according to sources. The 49ers are now eyeing former Browns defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil. Jason Tarver, who coached the 49ers LBs, is still also in contention.

The team did reportedly hire a new defensive coach to add to the coaching staff. They hired Jeff Hafley, who coached the Cleveland Browns secondary, to coach the same position. Adding him to the other coaches that have been reportedly hired leaves the team just needing to find a defensive coordinator and a linebackers coach if Jason Tarver does not come back.

The defensive coaches reportedly already hired are Jerry Azzinaro (defensive line) from the Eagles, Hardy Nickerson (inside linebackers) from the Bucs, and the newly hired Jeff Hafley.
