The San Francisco 49ers kick off their season finale at 1:25 p.m. PT, when they host the St. Louis Rams. In the meantime, there is a busy slate of games kicking off at 10:00 a.m. There are plenty of playoff implications, but it is a former 49er that we will be tracking this morning.
Frank Gore and the Indianapolis Colts are mathematically alive for a playoff berth. They need to win and have eight other things happen to clinch the AFC South, but they remain alive. More importantly for 49ers fans though is that Frank Gore has some big milestones he can accomplish on Sunday.
Gore enters the day with 891 rushing yards this season, and 11,964 for his career. If he rushes for 36 yards, he will become the 15th player to reach 12,000 career rushing yards. If he rushes for 111 yards, he will move past Thurman Thomas into sole possession of 14th place on the career rushing list. Finally, if he rushes for 109 yards, he will become only the fifth running back in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in nine or more seasons. He would join Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Curtis Martin and Barry Sanders. All four of those players are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Considering Josh Freeman is starting at quarterback for the Colts, it is safe to say Gore will get plenty of work. Best of luck to Frank today!
