The San Francisco 49ers fired head coach Jim Tomsula Sunday evening, and their coaching search is under way. Names have been connected to them, and Jed York will meet with the media at 10:30 a.m. PT Monday morning to discuss the next steps.
In the meantime, Black Monday is upon us and any additional coaching dismissals will likely take place throughout the day. The 49ers will be in competition with numerous teams for a head coach. There is always the possibility the 49ers promote from within, but for now, there are a lot of names out there.
With that in mind, I figured it would make sense each day to have a running live blog of news outside the 49ers confines. We'll be updating everything the 49ers do, but this thread will serve as an update for what candidates are up to around the league. We'll have a new one each day as needed, and it will be the primary place for general coaching search discussion. There will be individual articles for particularly notable news, but feel free to use this for everything else. I'll pin this to the top of the front page most of the day today.

Fooch's update, 10:00 a.m. PT - The Chargers will retain Mike McCoy as head coach. There was some thought they might be in contention for Sean Payton if they fired McCoy:

Fooch's update, 8:02 a.m. PT - David Shaw does not plan on leaving Stanford
Adam Gase, Chicago Bears offensive coordinator
Adam Gase interview schedule this week is as follows: Tues- Philadelphia. Wed- Cleveland. Thursday- Miami. @NFLonFOX
— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) January 4, 2016
We might as well get this one out of the way. Gase is viewed as one of the top candidates available for a head coach position. The 49ers interviewed him last year, and reports suggested he was offered the job, but was told he had to accept Jim Tomsula as his defensive coordinator. There were other reports that suggested he did not do well in the interview. Who knows who leaked what information specifically, but it did not work out. I highly doubt he ends up with the 49ers, and really, I don't even expect him to interview for the job.
Teryl Austin, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator
Busy few days for a top coordinator, part 2: #Lions DC Teryl Austin to interview with #Browns, #Dolphins, likely #Eagles all this week
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 4, 2016
Another candidate who interviewed with the 49ers last year, Austin ended up returning to Detroit in his DC position. Reports suggested his interview went well, but nothing came of it.
Mike Shanahan
Mike Shanahan is interviewing with @MiamiDolphins for HC vacancy Tuesday, @NFLonFOX has learned. Story being posted ASAP
— Alex Marvez (@alexmarvez) January 4, 2016
Mike Shanahan scheduled to meet Tues with Miami Dolphins, as @alexmarvez said. Will be Shanahan's 2ND interview with Miami. Also met Dec. 22

The one-time 49ers offensive assistant interviewed with the 49ers last season, but nothing ever panned out. Rumors were pretty wild last season, ranging from Mike and Kyle being a package deal, to then defensive coordinator Vic Fangio either wanting the 49ers HC position or have it go to Mike Shanahan. At one point, Shanahan's odds were even money that he would get the job. Mike Silver reported on Sunday that Shanahan expressed interest to the 49ers recently.
Hue Jackson, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator
The Cleveland Browns are interested in interviewing the one-time Oakland Raiders head coach, according to Rand Getlin. Oh, and there's this:
Based on what my source told me, Hue Jackson sounds like the guy that Baalke wants though.

Doug Marrone, Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach/OL coach
The #Dolphins are set to interview #Jaguars assistant head coach Doug Marrone, a source said. He'll also be interviewing with the #Browns.
— Rand Getlin (@Rand_Getlin) January 4, 2016
Marrone was the Buffalo Bills head coach, but elected to opt out at the end of the 2014 season thanks to a clause that paid him his full salary due to a change in ownership. He interviewed with the New York Jets last year, but nothing came of it, and he ended up joining the Jaguars as an assistant coach.
