The San Francisco 49ers reportedly have Hue Jackson at the top of their list, and the latest news could make Jackson to the 49ers all the more possible. Miami Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero is reporting the Dolphins are targeting Adam Gase, and will no longer interview Jackson on Sunday. The Dolphins have conducted seven interviews thus far, and have scheduled a second interview with Gase for this weekend.
Plenty could change over the weekend, but if the Dolphins can nail this down with Gase, it would seemingly leave the 49ers competing with the Cleveland Browns for the services of Hue Jackson. Well, let me clarify that. Jackson could end up deciding to stick with the Cincinnati Bengals. My guess is his desire for a head coaching job will lead to him departing Cincinnati, but we can never rule out a decision to stay in Cincinnati.
The 49ers are scheduled to interview Jackson on Sunday. The biggest question for now is the playoff status of the Bengals. 24 hours from now, we'll know whether or not the Bengals are still in the playoffs. If they are not, the 49ers coaching situation could resolve itself in fairly short order. If the Bengals beat the Steelers, we'll be left waiting a little while longer.
