The 2016 NFL coaching search process rolls along, and this morning brings some interesting news with the Philadelphia Eagles. Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport are reporting the Philadelphia Eagles requested permission from the New York Giants to interview former head coach Tom Coughlin. Rapoport is saying permission was granted, and the interview is set for Monday.
Coughlin stepped down earlier this week, and at the time, it sounded like the two sides were going to try and work out some kind of advisory role for him within the organization. There was clearly some friction in all this, and it would appear this did not work out. At the time, Coughlin did not rule out a return to coaching, but clearly it might happen sooner rather than later.
All indications from Miami are that the Dolphins are closing in on hiring Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase. As we discussed last night, Hue Jackson's planned Sunday interview is apparently off the table, as Gase comes in for a second interview. That's certainly beneficial for the San Francisco 49ers in their own pursuit of Hue Jackson. The 49ers and Browns are set to interview Jackson on Sunday
