Is this rookie draft class better than the ones we have had in the past few years or do we just have a coach that believes in getting rookies into the games? Not only have we had Rishard Robinson and DeForest Buckner starting, it looks like Joshua Garnett is close to breaking into the starting lineup as well. Blair has been in on a few snaps every game on the defensive line and Kevin Burbridge is getting some snaps at WR.
Will we see Will Redmond returning to practice next week? Who knows, we could have as many as five rookies getting meaningful playing time by the end of the season. What a difference from the days when we impatiently waited years to see our drafted players getting into any games.
You add in Arik Armstead, Jaquiski Tartt, Eli Harold and Trenton Brown from last year and we may actually have found some talent in the last two drafts. Eli Harold might not be that great as a starter but he will be just fine as a backup if we can ever find an outside linebacker that can get to the quarterback. Count them, that is nine players from the last two drafts and we still have guys like John Theus and Prince Charles in the background that just might surprise us some day.
