Colin Kaepernick’s 1st start since last season did not change the fortunes for the 49ers. They were beaten by the Buffalo Bills 45-16 and it followed a familiar formula from the last few weeks. At halftime, the Bills led 17-13 and at the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was 24-13. In the 4th quarter, the 49ers collapsed and gave up 21 points. The defense gave up just shy of 500 total yards to the Bills’ offense.

Colin did not have a good game by any stretch. He took shots down field, but most were under or overthrown. He was able to locate Torrey Smith, who had been missing the last few games, for a 53 yard TD. It wasn’t the best throw considering Torrey was wide open, but he was able to get the ball to Torrey. Colin missed a couple other throws in the game when Torrey found himself open. His pocket presence looked better than it had last season. His running ability started a little slow, but he made a few plays with his feet, most impressive being the almost safety turning into a positive play. He will return as the starter at home against the Tampa Bay Bucs.

The defense had a horrendous game. If LeSean McCoy was looking for his revenge game on Chip Kelly, he sure delivered. He torched the defense for 140 yards and 3 TDs. He averaged over 7 yards a carry, though it looked like he averaged much more than that. He was routinely in the secondary before being brought down. The 49ers linebackers were nowhere to be found in the run defense. The Bills’ rush offense had 312 yards. The pressure is mounting on Jim O’Neil. His defense is being torched on a weekly basis. This defense should be the reason Trent Baalke should be fired. He routinely drafts defensive players and those players are just not helping this team.
