Jets to name Geno Smith Week 7 starting quarterback

The Jets own dumpster fire takes a turn.

The New York Jets have had enough of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Adam Schefter is reporting the team will make a change and name Geno Smith the new starting quarterback. Through six weeks, Fitzpatrick has thrown 11 interceptions against only five touchdowns. He has completed 57.0 percent of his passes for 1,441 yards. He ranks No. 25 in QBR, and Football Outsiders ranks him No. 31 in both DYAR and DVOA. That is last due to the absence of a Patriots quarterback with a minimum of 90 passes.

The San Francisco 49ers face the New York Jets in Week 14. The 49ers have made their own quarterback switch, changing from Blaine Gabbert to Colin Kaepernick in Week 6. Week 14 is still a ways off, so plenty could change. Will we see Kap vs. Geno in Week 14? Or maybe we see Christian Ponder vs. Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg. Or maybe some combination involving Blaine Gabbert.

I don’t really know what we’ll see in Week 14, but given that both teams are currently 1-5, it could be a huge showdown for draft pick supremacy.
