NaVorro Bowman injures leg, taken to locker room on cart, ruled OUT

Fooch’s update: The 49ers have announced Bowman is OUT with a lower leg injury. There is no further word on the severity, but it didn’t look good.

The San Francisco 49ers defense suffered what could be a big blow on Sunday, as linebacker NaVorro Bowman went down with an injury. In the third quarter, Bowman’s leg buckled without contact, and he went to the ground. He was able to get up and walk off the field, but he was walking with a serious limp.

Here’s a look at the injury.

After Bowman went off the field, the trainers were seen taking his shoe off and looking at the lower leg. Cam Inman and Eric Branch tweeted that Bowman was subsequently taken to the locker room. We await word on Bowman’s status.

The 49ers moved inside linebacker Nick Bellore into the game next to Michael Wilhoite. The team also has Gerald Hodges, but for he is not getting the same kind of snaps as normal. I imagine Chip Kelly will get a question or two about this one after the game.
