Scouting reports on four players taking part in the Oregon-Cal and SJSU-SDSU games.

NCAA Football: Oregon at Michigan State Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

College Football Week 8 continues on Friday with a couple of intriguing matchups. These under-hyped games are two contests you won’t want to miss. I have four scouting reports on prospects eligible for 2017 NFL Draft along with general game information.

California vs. Oregon

Time: 7:30 P.M. PDT
Location: Kabam Field at Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, California
Live Stream: WatchESPN
Spread: California -10

Cal Players to Watch:

Davis Webb | QB | #7 | Senior | 6’5” | 230 lbs

Scouting Report: Excellent recognition skills and is able to deliver the ball on time and on target. Webb does a phenomenal job of flipping his hips, pointing his shoulder and firing the football when he’s not in a position to make a throw. He showcases clean and fluid footwork in his drops and pushes off his back to fling the ball with likeable velocity. He does have an issue of telegraphing his passes, but it could be attributed to him deciding his target prior to the snap, a common thing found in spread-based offenses. While still at Texas Tech, Webb’s film also displays him leaving the deep ball short at times due to his inability to get his shoulder up and get air underneath the pigskin.

Other Players to Watch: (RB) Tre Watson, (WR) Chad Hansen, (WR) Demetris Robertson, (OG) Chris Borrayo, (DB) Darius Allensworth, (DT) James Looney, (SS) Damariay Drew, (RB) Khalfani Muhammad

Oregon Players to Watch:

Royce Freeman | RB | #21 | Junior | 5’11” | 230 lbs

Scouting Report: Freeman has been prolific his first two years at Oregon, totaling 3,201 yards and 35 scores. He runs with determination and strength. Freeman does not like to go down after initial contact and has proven to be effective in pass protection. He possesses excellent vision and is a patient runner behind the line of scrimmage. However many things there are to like about this bulldozer, Freeman’s speed is marginal and you won’t usually see him winning any long foot races.

Other Players to Watch: (WR) Darren Carrington, (OT) Tyrell Crosby, (TE) Pharaoh Brown, (WR) Dwayne Stanford, (OG) Cameron Hunt, (TE) Evan Baylis, (DE) T.J. Daniel

San Jose State vs. San Diego State

Time: 7:30 P.M. PDT
Location: Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, California
Live Stream: WatchESPN
Spread: San Diego State -10

SDSU Players to Watch:

Donnel Pumphrey | RB | #19 | Senior | 5’9” | 180 lbs

Scouting Report: Pumphrey is incredibly shifty and presents innate vision. He sets up defenders multiple moves ahead of time and can make someone miss while staying balanced and without gearing down. He is lethal in the open field, displaying blazing acceleration and burst to break free at any given time. Pumphrey is also used in the passing game because of his solid hands, often lining up in the slot. On the downside, the returning senior is quite undersized. At just 5-foot-9 and 180-pounds, NFL organizations will question his durability.

Other Players to Watch: (OG) Nico Siragusa, (CB) Damontae Kazee, (OLB) Calvin Munson, (DE) Alex Barrett, (SS) Malik Smith

SJSU Players to Watch:

Christian Tago | ILB | #4 | Senior | 6’1” | 242 lbs

Scouting Report: Tago is an undersized yet ultra-instinctive inside linebacker who is flying under pretty much everybody’s radars. He sees the field very well and is always around the ball. He diagnoses run or pass quite easily, is a sure-fire tackler and sports a quick read and react ability. His lack of speed is glaring on film but he could improve it with weight loss. All in all, Tago is a super likeable, natural football player and a solid seventh-round pick to free agent signing.

Other Players to Watch: (TE) Billy Freeman, (FB) Shane Smith, (OT) Skylar Lacy, (WR) Tim Crawley
