NFL picks against the spread, Week 7: Looking at the full slate plus 5 SuperContest picks

The 49ers are a mix of favorite and underdog against the Bucs in Week 7, depending on the sportsbook you choose. We’re going reverse jinx action this weekend. Here are my ATS picks, including five LVH SuperContest picks.

It’s time for Week 7 picks against the spread! The San Francisco 49ers are back home this week, hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 49ers opened as a 2.5-point underdog, but the line has swung to the point that most books now have the game as even, with several with the 49ers laying upwards of 1.5 points. The LVH SuperContest line came out on Wednesday evening, however, which means I can get the 49ers as underdogs for this game.

For the third straight season, I am back for the LVH SuperContest. SB Nation's partners over at Odds Shark are sponsoring my entry again. The contest requires selecting 5 games each week and picking them against the spread. This year's contest is expected to have over 1,800 participants, which is a new record for the SuperContest. SB Nation is represented by myself and Matt Ufford, and there are folks from all over the blogosphere involved. Everybody picks their own five games and there will be a running leaderboard HERE. You can follow my standings under the name "Fooch.”

I have shown slight improvement every couple weeks. After some 1-4 and then 2-3 weeks, I put together a 3-2 performance last week. I remain near the bottom, but slow and steady is better than nothing at all I suppose.

Here are my SuperContest picks for Week 7. Fade at your leisure:

EAGLES vs. Vikings (-2.5): Vikings
DOLPHINS vs. Bills (-3): Dolphins
JAGUARS vs. Raiders (+1): Jaguars
49ERS vs. Buccaneers (-2): 49ers
CARDINALS vs. Seahawks (+1.5): Cardinals

Yep, I’m taking the 49ers. They very well could find plenty of ways to lose this game, but I think this sets up for a win. They are back home, where they conceivably should be playing a little better, particularly on defense. And while that did not work out against the Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago, the Bucs are a worse team. The 49ers run defense is awful, but I think they can do a better job containing Jacquizz Rodgers than some of the running backs they’ve faced in recent weeks. I think it all sets up for a 49ers win.

I went with four home teams and one road team, and then went with two underdogs. All the lines were close enough that I felt mostly comfortable going with home teams. I am usually more inclined to take a home dog than a road favorite, which makes the Vikings pick a little sketchy. Add in that everyone is betting on the Vikings, and I could be walking into a trap. We’ll see.

Here are all my picks for Week 7:
